Professional Interests
Below are links to some of my professional interests.
RAND Corporation Since 1999, I have worked for the RAND Corporation, headquartered in Santa Monica, California. A complete list of my publications for RAND, with links to PDF files, is available here. Heartland Center From 1995 to 1999, I worked for Heartland Center, a Catholic Church agency in Hammond, Indiana. My work at Heartland included analyses of community crime, family life issues, welfare reform, migration, public health issues, racial and ethnic populations, and other topics of demographic and economic change. Glenmary Research Center Since 1987, I've also worked intermittently for the Glenmary Research Center of Nashville, Tennessee. Among my projects for the Center was helping compile Religious Congregations and Membership in the United States, 2000. The Center has published decennial enumerations of religious adherence since 1971, the only such county-level enumeration in the United States. Other work I have conducted for the Center has included descriptive social and economic analyses of rural Catholic mission areas. Some of my work at Glenmary led to my doctoral dissertation at the University of Chicago; this work was later published by the University of Tennessee Press as Local Baptists, Local Politics: Churches and Communities in the Middle and Uplands South. Reviews of Local Baptists, Local Politics are posted here and here; other (offline) reviews available upon request. |
